GMB Congress 2025: Standing Up for Working People

Brighton, 8–12 June 2025 — GMB Congress 2025 brought together hundreds of elected delegates and activists from across the UK and Ireland to shape the future of the union and champion the rights of working people.

Held at the Brighton Centre, Congress set the agenda for the year ahead—tackling key issues like workers’ rights, pay, public services, energy policy, and equality. Delegates debated motions, celebrated union victories, and honoured outstanding activists through a series of prestigious awards.

Highlights:

  • Labour Partnership: Labour leader Keir Starmer pledged a “New Deal for Working People” within the first 100 days of a Labour government—vowing to end zero-hours contracts, ban fire-and-rehire, and strengthen union rights.

  • Equality in Action: GMB’s commitment to inclusive representation was showcased through powerful motions on social care, accessibility, and anti-racism.

  • Energy & Jobs: With a focus on a just transition, GMB called for investment in clean energy while defending secure jobs in the North Sea and wider industry.

  • Celebrating Organising: Activists were recognised for exceptional work in health & safety, workplace equality, and grassroots organising.

Congress 2025 affirmed GMB’s role as a bold, member-led union—driven by action, rooted in community, and ready to deliver real change.
